Working women have it tough. Not only are they expected to excel at work, they are often too busy managing their other commitments that they don’t have time to pamper themselves. Although self-care does not result in any major health improvements on the body, the relaxation from self-care often helps to stop chronic stress from happening.
Skincare is one of the easiest ways for working women to pamper themselves with because healthier skin makes them feel better and more confident. Plus, with the pollution from the environment and other external factors, having a proper skincare routine can protect the skin from harm. Instead of following popular skincare routines like the 10-step Korean skincare routine or purchasing expensive brands, it’s more important to find the steps that work for you. Let’s dive into the recommended skincare routine for the busy women.
1. Cleanser
Let’s face it: the skin is a breeding ground for germs. There is no telling how many germs are running over the skin, and coupling that with sweat or dirt from the outside world, the skin is never free of germs. Of course, water works well to clean our faces, but a cleanser that suits the skin type works to clean out the pores from dirt and germs. An important thing to note is that cleansers must be gentle on the skin, and not abrasive to tear the epidermis layer. So it’s better to choose foam cleansers over scrub cleansers for daily and nightly use.
2. Toner
After the cleanser, it is necessary to apply the toner. Not only does this help to tighten the pores after the cleansing, the toner also prepares the skin for moisturising and hydrating. Just have two or three drops of toner on the palm, spread it on both hands and gently pat it all over the face.
3. Moisturiser
Moisturisers are vital to keep the necessary oils locked into the skin surface. If the sticky texture from regular moisturisers is a bother, then opt for the watery types. What’s more crucial is to regularly apply these day and night, no more than a dab on the cheeks, the forehead, the nose and the chin before massaging it onto the skin.
4. Sunscreen
Living in Malaysia, the sunny weather is ever present since the country is right on the Equator. Wearing sunscreen is not only for going to the beach, but also for a regular weekday at work. Sunscreen can guard the skin from harsh UVA and UVB rays, and it’s believed that the more you’re exposed to sunlight throughout the day, the more you’re meant to top up the sunscreen every few hours to not get sunburnt. For the busy women, it’s vital to apply this onto the skin after the moisturiser and right before setting out for work.
5. Aloe Vera Gels
Aloe vera has always been beneficial for skincare. It works as a great moisturiser for the skin (and even hair!), it’s a good cooling agent, and it also works to heal scars on the skin. While applying this during the day may not be practical, using aloe vera gels at night can help the skin to absorb as much moisture as it can while the wearer sleeps. On the plus side, aloe vera gels usually come in big packets or bottles, so they would last for a long, long time even with nightly use!
