Launches Dating App For 2020 Dating Trends
Lunch Actually, Asia’s first and largest lunch dating agency revealed the findings from their Annual Singles Dating Survey 2020 on November 5th at a virtual press conference. 3,500 singles from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Hong Kong took part in the survey that showed how they dated in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, the changes in their perspective and expectations when they date and the future of the dating scene.
“This year is a truly unprecedented year. For most of the singles in the countries we surveyed, they have been complying to various movement restriction orders which prevents them from going on a date and meeting new people. However, our survey shows that the pandemic has increased their desire to find love because it made them realize the importance of having a partner in life,” says Violet Lim, CEO and Co-Founder of Lunch Actually. “And as a result, their behavior and expectations are changing.”
From the survey conducted, 25 percent of Malaysian singles reported seeing more fake profiles on dating apps and 50 percent of the singles shared that they came across scammers. Out of the 3,500 participants, 40 percent stated that they started using dating apps this year.
A new change that they noticed is video dating. The participants agreed that video dating is the new form of dating in the future as more than half of the singles have tried it out.
When asked about the perks of video dating, 79 percent of the men said it was a new and fun dating experience whereas 54 percent of the women said it helped to clarify which dates they would like to meet up outside in the real world. 74 percent of the singles in the survey concurred that they would give video dating another try.
“While the pandemic has brought on new challenges when it comes to dating, it has brought on new opportunities that are ultimately helping them in their search for love, such as video dating. Even though it won’t replace face-to-face date, video dating solidified its place as a new stage in courtship, enabling singles to save time and get to know each other better before committing more time to meet in person regardless of distance,” Violet said.
Among other interesting findings across all the participants from the countries listed are as stated below:-
The top three things that the men in the survey looked for in a date are their age (68%), body type (62%) and their religion (35%).
The top three things that the women in the survey looked out for in a date are the income level (66%), age (49%) and the education level (43%).
64% of the women would date a younger man whereas 55% of the men would date an older woman.
66% of the women would date someone who’s been married before while 62% of the men would do so.
41% of the women would date a man who earns less than they do, but 92% of the men would date a woman who earns more.
25% of the women would date a shorter man whereas 69% of the men would date a taller woman.
According to the survey, 72% of the singles preferred to find their dates from dating apps, showing that dating apps is indeed the most popular and convenient method to date. Unfortunately, the findings also revealed that the amount of scammers on the apps are increasing as well.
“This is why we have recently released a Lunch Actually app - which combines the convenience and access of a dating app, but with manual verifications so singles don’t have to worry about encountering scammers. “All profiles in Lunch Actually dating app are working professionals and verified by dating consultants, making the dating experience safe and efficient,” said Violet.
Potential clients of Lunch Actually need to undergo a one-to-one consultation, in person or through virtual means, so that the consultant can further understand their profiles and confirm the clients’ identities. Thankfully, the organisation progressed to virtual means of consultations, dates, speed dating events and coaching sessions throughout the pandemic. Clients can rest assured that the consultation process allows the consultants to conveniently and effectively verify the identity of potential clients.
The imminent features of the app include letting the singles set their consultation appointments, view their matches, plan their dates, send in their date feedback and chat in real-time with the dating coaches and consultants for any advice.
“Seeing the advantages of virtual dating and how more singles are receptive to the idea, the app will also allow singles to video-call their dating coaches or have a virtual date with their matches seamlessly through the app,” Violet added.
As the world gets more digital by the day, it is no surprise that the dating scene is shifting to the online world as well. We hope that the findings from the survey are helpful as they give hints on what people want when they date. Nevertheless, it’s important to remember that dating is one aspect of a romantic relationship. After your date, it’s just as important to nurture the relationship so that it can blossom to be a meaningful part of your life.
We wish all the singles in Malaysia the best of luck in finding love and romance during these unprecedented times!
