As the saying goes, health is wealth. Many people understand the value of being healthy only when they fall sick. That’s why in the recent years, there’s been a rise of healthy lifestyle trends and popular diets. Although people are becoming conscious of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and are trying out all these different diet plans, sad to say that only a few stay on till date. Here are some of the popular diets for a healthier lifestyle.
Intermittent fasting
When fasting comes to mind, most Malaysians would probably think of the fasting time that Muslims do during Ramadan, or even the kind that Hindus do to observe certain rituals. However, intermittent fasting is different. The common idea is that out of the 24 hours in a day, people will eat within a period of time. The most popular time frame that people pick is from 12.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. What they do is that they eat within those hours. Outside of those hours, other than sleeping hours, they
would only drink water, tea or coffee. This diet plan puts a stop to unhealthy habits like evening mamak sessions and midnight snacking.
Keto diet plan
The keto diet, also known as the ketogenic diet is a plan where people consume little carbohydrates and a lot of fats. The fats here don't point out to fried foods or oily dishes. They refer to healthy fats. With this diet, people lose weight easily as the low carbs intake tricks the body to use the fats as a source of energy. Other than losing weight, it’s been said that keto diets help to improve brain
activity and reduce epileptic seizures for children.
Calorie deficit plan
Before hopping on board onto this diet plan, it is important to know the amount of calories
needed for the body everyday. It's believed that the required calorie intake for the adult male is around 2,000 to 3,000 calories daily and for the female adult is 1,600 to 2,400 calories everyday. What people can do to follow this plan is to consume foods throughout the day where the total number of calories would not go over the maximum requirement. Of course, some would challenge themselves and consume calories below the needed intake. However, not all dietitians would agree to that as people's
daily activities are different depending on their occupation and habits.
In short, these are just some of the diet plans that gained popularity over the years. The good thing from the popularity of these diet plans is that more and more people are getting health conscious and are more open to healthy living. All one needs to do is choose the most sustainable diet plan that could make way for a healthier lifestyle but also works within her means.
